  1. As the son of a successful lawyer, Verne initially studied law, but he ventured to write comedies and operettas early in his career.
  2. Twelve-year old Jules’ real-life ocean adventure was intercepted by his father before he got to sea, and Jules supposedly promised his parents that “in future he would travel only in imagination.”
  3. The first electric submarine, created 25 years after Verne’s Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, was named Nautilus after its fictional counterpart.
