Queen Elizabeth I: 3 Interesting Facts

Here are three interesting facts about Queen Elizabeth I:

  1. Many men vied for her hand, but Elizabeth is the only English queen who never married. 
  2. Although smallpox left her with some facial scarring and hair loss, Elizabeth’s portraits depicted beauty, divinity and purity, something her advisors encouraged. She was soon compared by some of her subjects to the goddesses Venus, Astraea, and the Greek deity Diana.
  3.  She displayed virtues associated with wealth (love of high fashion: she owned about 2,000 pairs of gloves!), as well as regard for the poor. She pioneered laws to help feed the poor.
